Arizona Litigation Associate Job Description

Spire Law defends businesses and business owners in civil litigation. 

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Handle 7-15 FLSA, ADA, and other business lawsuits simultaneously under the supervision of the managing partner.
  • Litigate cases supported by a legal assistant/paralegal with other attorneys to discuss the matters with.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years post-J.D. w/2+ years as a civil litigator.
  • Be eligible to serve as a compliance lawyer for Arizona's alternative business structure.
  • Current member of the Arizona Bar in good standing with no discipline history
  • Demonstrably technologically inclined, proficient in Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: (Any of these are great!)

  • English-Spanish bilingual.
  • You have IP experience with trademarks, TTAB actions, responding to office actions, etc.
  • You have inside sales experience.
  • You are an active member of additional state bar associations.
  • You bring additional clients. We have plenty of work to share, however helping the firm grow at the outset is always a benefit.
  • You’ve done any coding. Excel Macros, Python, HTML, etc. Being highly technology inclined is an asset here.

Spire Law defends businesses and business owners in civil litigation.  We have an urgent need for an of counsel attorney to represent our clients in litigation on an as-needed, part-time basis in North Florida, Southern California, SF Bay Area, California and the tri-county area in Arizona. Expected case volume after 3 months would be 2-4 business or employment litigation matters on an on-going basis. You would not be required to act as an employee and could continue to be a part of an existing firm, even if potentially competing. 

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Handle 2-4 FLSA, ADA, and other business lawsuits simultaneously.
  • Litigate cases supported by our team of legal assistants/paralegals with other attorneys to discuss the matters with.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years as a civil litigator, have handled at least 2 matters in any of the following case types: (FLSA, Business Litigation, ADA, Wage and Hour, Breach of Contract, FMLA, Department of Labor investigation)
  • Current member of the Arizona Bar in good standing with no discipline history
  • Demonstrably technologically inclined, proficient in Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications: (Any of these are great!)

  • English-Spanish bilingual.

Work and education requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of college (or exceptional, relevant experience)
  • Greater than 1 year in a professional office setting, previous legal experience greatly preferred.

Skills a successful candidate should possess:

  • Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel (e.g. have used mail merge, edited Styles, etc.)

Spire Law practices employment litigation and business law in Orlando, FL. We're an all-Python shop that uses web apps and automation to find clients, help them and win cases. We are Y Combinator alumni, part of the W19 batch. We are offering market compensation + equity to the right candidate.

This role is at the confluence of law and technology. You will learn more, faster. You will support the legal and engineering team, reporting directly to the CEO of the tech company half of Spire Law.

The right person for this role will be able to take ownership of developing and implementing our next generation of tools to enhance our company & firm. CTO position in the tech-company is a possibility in time. We've entered product-market fit and over the next 3 months will be migrating to a serverless architecture, implementing new web scrapers, building up our APIs, and other tasks to support our expansion.

Responsibilities will be set based on your demonstrated proficiencies but are likely to include:

  • Deploy python based web apps to AWS Lambda.
  • Author and maintain web scrapers
  • Author Flask, Django and Dash web apps
  • Research and implement new data sources for lead gen and lead enrichment.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to fill our biweekly sprints.
  • Front end work as needed (not a ton)
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
